Dogs Supposedly known for aggression

There are many dog breeds that would be considered "aggressive. The majority of these dogs fall in the working group category according to AKC and most dog profile books. Depending on where you look or who you are talking to depends on what list you get as to which dogs are most aggressive. Some bias people think only big dogs like pit bulls, rottweilers, Mastiffs, etc are the aggressive ones. That is not true. Even little dogs can be mean and aggressive. Dogs that you would generally think of as a safe and loving dog can be aggressive. Many problems are rising with landlords and their tenants due to which pets are allowed and which are banned. It is often unfair and stereptypical. On many leases it states NO Boxers, Rottweilers, Pittbulls, Mastiff's, St. Bernanrds, Chows, Dobermans etc. This is not fair because as stated beforw not all dogs of this breed are untrained aggressive animals. I know they are just pets and not human...however in the human world there are laws against slander, discrimination, and stereotypes. To some extent there should be some laws put into place to protect these breeds and their owners. For example, if you were a landlord and had a no "aggressive" dog policy that would include some of the above stated dogs, right? Yes, but would you allow a Dalmation?? I am sure you would as would most other landlords, and accodring to the research complied by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the CDC, and the Human Society of the United States, Dalmations rank number 10 on their most dangeous breed list. A Mastiff or St. Bernard would not be allowed though because of their "aggresion" and they are not even on this list. All dogs can be provoked or egged on to bite. There is no such thing as a "Bad" breed. All breeds are trainable. Proper training and socialization can make otherwise violent dogs like Rottweilers or Pit Bulls adorable and gentle ones. According to some more research here is a list of dogs who are potentially just as dangerous as all the infamous breeds

-Chow Chow

-Papillon

-Old English Sheep Dog

-Cocker Spaniel

-Minature Pincher

-Pekingese

-Llasa Apso

-Chihuahuas

-Toy Poodles

-Dashunds

-Jack Russel Terriers

-Giant Schnauzer

Then some of the breeds that are gentle for the most part and just cant shake of the bad name are listed below

-Boxer

-Bulldog

-Great Dane

-Mastiff

-German Shepard

-Rottweilers

However Many people will still have bad things to say about them. People dont understand that the news doesnt know everything and doesnt report everything. You dont hear about all the good that breeds like Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Mastiffs, etc are doing. Nobody hears how they saved their families lives, or how they are being used as police dogs, or how they are being trained to be special needs dogs. It is also not in the news about the attacks by little dogs such as pomeranians, Rat Terriers, Mini Pins or even Labs, and Golden Retrievers.

I am the proud mom to two dogs that would be considered "aggressive" and "violent." I have a 75 lb Rottweiler named Dozer and a 150+ lb Mastiff named Chief. Neither one of them has offered one second of aggression to anyone. My Rotti is a little chicken and will back donwn to any one and anything and he is almost a year. My Mastiff is a bit more stern as he is not nuetered and he is more mature at the age of 2. I have a one year old little boy and he can do ANYTHING with my mastiff. He climbs on him, pets him, takes his bones, feeds him bones and treats, he can go up to the dish while he is eating(my son tries to eat dog food!!!) he rides him like a horse and my mastiff even sleeps next to his crib during his naps to look over him. My Rotti is a little different as he has not settled down yet, he is still a big puppy! He is rather hyper and gets excited, so my son has to be more careful, not due to aggression just puppiness!!! When my rott accidnetly knocks my son down with his "wiggle butt" he will turn right around nudge him to get up...and once my son gets up he licks him as to say "ooopppsss, sorry" Both of them are great with him and all of our family over all. They will bark when people come and sniff the to check them out, after that they are your best friend and try to give you big wet sloppy kisses. However, my family and i are having a hard time trying to find a new house where we can move to that will accept our other family and my other two sons....my dogs...There have been so many places that would be very nice for us to live but they wont allow "aggressive" breeds, and it isnt appartments either so it isnt due to their size, it is all due to their breed. That is discrimination and I think something should be done. There is no way that i should have to get rid of part of our family so we can move to a new house, my son is attached to them, i've had the rott since he has been born(i had his mother) and my mastiff since he was 8 months. Something needs to be done.

I completely agree! It all depends on how they were trained. My aunt has a pitbull and he is the biggest dog (Not to mention baby) that I have ever seen. They would be lost without him he has such a wonderful personality. When someone meets him for the first time they love his colors and ask what kind of dog he is but once they learn that he is a pure-bred pitbull they no longer want anything to do with him. This is discrimination. They are family too, no dog is just a pet!

Very true Erin and thanks for the comment. It is ridicolous the way people are especially in the case of your aunts dog, they like him until they find out what he is and then they dont like him.....he is still the same dog. My dad used to be like this when i was younger and didnt have a choice over the dog breeds we got, he is really leary of all dogs in general, especially pits, rotts, mastiffs etc, well once i got in my teen years and really complained to get one and got my mom on my side we got them and he sees now that they are great dogs and isnt as discriminatory towards them. People who havent owned them dont know and shouldnt judge!

Yeah, bad reputation dogs are cool. But most of the dogs that have bad names could really hurt someone if they do bite. Some of the other breeds you mentioned probably wouldn' seriously injure a person. I do agree with you for the most part. It's just that some people don't want to take the chance.

Hey I do agree that some breeds are not welcomed nicely, but come on, its for a reason. My neighbor had two mastiffs, who would leave one of my golden retrievers soaking red once a year, thank god he is so immune to pain that he acted fine and dandy after the front gate of my house rolled over his tail and then left my car soaked in blood at 2 am. Anyways those loyal dogs had to be put down after they LITERALLY ripped the skin out of a 70 year old womans face after she had cared for them for years. MY girlfriend has 5 Rottweilers and 5 pups. 4 are great and only are agressive if you are not shown in. The other dog left a neighbor crippled after he was jogging and they opened the entrance gate to take the car out. After two years, they have to lock up the dog when I come into the house. I know rottweilers can be very loyal to the family, but they can be extremely aggresive as well. 4 of those dogs im not scared of. But if the other one grabs me.......4/5 is not my ratio for a dog with neighbors around.
